Otorohanga dairy farmer and agricultural economist Zach Mounsey has won a 2015 farming study tour.
The 2015 Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) – World Farmer Organisation Study Tour in Argentina awards were announced at the annual national Fieldays event.
“It’s great to see a dairy farmer and Otorohanga local get a top spot,” says Ms Kuriger.
“Kiwis farmers are known worldwide for their innovation and forward-thinking practices on the land. Good on Zach for making the grade – I’m sure he, and Doug Avery, co-winner of the award, will be great ambassadors for New Zealand at the event in Argentina later this year.
Award entrants, judged on their ability to communicate examples of on-farm innovation which supported production and environmental objectives, were chosen by a technical panel from the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).
Zach and Doug will travel to Argentina to share and learn about agricultural greenhouse gas research. International farmers visited New Zealand last year to study farm management systems and practices that reduce environmental impacts.
Zach Mounsey is the Federated Farmers Otorohanga chairman and delegate for the Global Youth Ag Summit 2015. Doug Avery is the founder of Resilient Farmers, and previous New Zealand Land Care Ambassador and Landcorp Agricultural Communicator of the Year.
