Taranaki-King Country MP Barbara Kuriger today welcomes the completed installation of the cell tower in Ohura, which will increase mobile coverage and high-speed rural wireless broadband.
“Now operational in Ohura, the new tower is a real asset to TKC,” says local MP Barbara Kuriger.
“Those living and working in the Ohura region now have high-speed mobile coverage in locations where previously there was no coverage.
“The extended coverage is vital for emergency services and is beneficial to connectivity all-round. Having high-speed broadband also provides a boost to the rural economy by enabling the use of the latest farming technology and agri-innovation.
“The Ohura cell tower is an important milestone in the Government’s commitment to bring faster, more reliable wireless broadband and mobile coverage to Kiwis living in rural New Zealand,” Kuriger said.
The Ohura cell site is one of two new sites for the Ruapehu District to be completed under the Rural Broadband Initiative – which Vodafone delivers in partnership with the Government and Chorus.
The site will radically transform the area’s access to communication services, with over 230 rural addresses benefiting from greater connectivity over Vodafone's 4G network.
